Goodbye Christmas Tree, Hello Houseplants

Goodbye Christmas Tree, Hello Houseplants

Now that Christmas is over and we have begun to take down the fragrant evergreens –wreaths, garlands and Christmas trees- that have adorned our homes for the holidays, how do we fill those gaps and brighten our homes through the long winter months? Houseplants provide a welcome organic element by bringing the outdoors in and function much like the evergreens of the Christmas holidays by reminding us of the natural world and heralding the brighter days ahead. The new year is a great time to add houseplants to your home décor and fill that empty corner left by your Christmas tree!

Houseplants can be an integral part of your interior design:

  • Provide scale and drama, add an architectural element, and fill an empty corner with tall plants such as fiddle leaf figs and palms. Taller plants can direct the eye upwards, enhancing and emphasizing decorative moldings, and beautiful chandeliers.
  • Topiary plants come in a variety of sizes and can add a more formal yet organic element to interior spaces.
  • Hanging plants can soften and perk up any space.
  • Hard, angular surfaces, such as mantels and bookcases can benefit from the contrast with the softer organic forms provided by plants.
  • Don’t forget the bathroom! Many plants thrive on the higher humidity in your bathroom and the organic element is a nice contrast to the hard, tiled surfaces.
  • Same for the kitchen – plus think of growing fresh herbs or microgreens. Not only will your kitchen be prettier, but your meals will be more tasty!
  • A terrarium is a great way to bring some greenery inside. They are low maintenance and have a small footprint.
  • Flowering plants always add cheer to the long, dark days of winter.

There are tremendous variety of houseplants available that would be terrific for any situation. Our greenhouse is a magical place to visit in the cold winter months.

Come on in and have a look – our knowledgeable staff will help you pick out just the right plants for your home.
