Our yard operations team plays a critical role in delivering a smooth, accurate, and professional customer experience by ensuring plant material is handled safely, orders are fulfilled correctly, and daily operations run efficiently.

Position Overview

The Yard Operations Team Member is a hands-on, fast-paced role responsible for locating, collecting, staging, and loading plant material for customers, deliveries, transfers, and special orders. This position works closely with sales staff, logistics, and section managers to ensure customers receive the correct, high-quality plant material in a timely and professional manner.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, working outdoors, collaborating with a team, and contributing directly to customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

· Locate, collect, and pull plant material for walk-in customers, deliveries, transfers, and online or phone orders

· Assist customers with safely selecting and loading plants into their vehicles while providing courteous, professional service

· Support the Loading & Logistics team with store-to-store transfers and delivery preparation

· Stage, organize, and label plant material for scheduled deliveries and customer pickups

· Verify order accuracy against invoices or sales tickets prior to loading or staging

· Transport plant material within the nursery using carts, wagons, or pickup trucks while following safety procedures

· Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free loading, staging, and yard areas

· Handle plant material carefully to maintain quality and presentation standards

· Assist with tagging and labeling for customer holds, deliveries, and transfers

· Collaborate with sales staff and section managers to efficiently locate and pull product

· Communicate shortages, substitutions, or issues to customer service and sales teams

· Provide support with general yard upkeep as time allows (plant straightening, weeding, cleanup)

· Follow all safety guidelines, including proper lifting techniques and PPE usage

· Assist with early-season unloading of incoming plant material

Qualifications & Requirements

· Prior experience in nursery operations, plant handling, or retail customer service preferred

· Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly and work outdoors in all weather conditions

· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions

· Basic plant identification knowledge or willingness to learn

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment

· Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate pickup trucks on nursery grounds

· Dependable, professional, and customer-focused with a strong work ethic
