Position Overview
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, and repair of drip and overhead irrigation systems throughout the nursery. This hands-on role ensures consistent and effective water delivery to trees, shrubs, and other plant material while minimizing water waste and plant stress.
This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented individual with mechanical aptitude who enjoys working outdoors, problem-solving, and collaborating with yard operations and section management teams. The Irrigation Technician works both independently and as part of a broader operations team and plays a key role during peak seasonal periods.

Primary Responsibilities
· Inspect, monitor, and maintain drip and overhead irrigation systems daily to ensure consistent water coverage across all zones
· Identify and repair leaks, clogs, cracked lines, disconnected hoses, and malfunctioning emitters or nozzles
· Check irrigation zones on a rotating schedule to confirm adequate watering for all trees and plant groupings
· Clean and maintain filters, valves, pressure regulators, emitters, and nozzles to ensure optimal system performance
· Provide supplemental hand-watering or portable sprinkler support in areas not adequately reached by automated systems
· Evaluate soil moisture levels and plant conditions to verify effective irrigation from prior cycles
· Stand and reset fallen plants and ensure irrigation lines remain properly positioned and accessible
· Maintain accurate records of system checks, repairs, and watering adjustments
· Assist with seasonal system start-up and winterization, including flushing lines, testing timers, and inspecting components
· Operate tools and equipment safely and maintain them in good working condition
· Keep irrigation components, hoses, and tools organized, safe, and customer-friendly in public-facing areas
· Coordinate with Section Managers and Yard Operations staff to prioritize irrigation needs and adjust watering schedules

Qualifications & Requirements
· Prior experience with irrigation systems, plumbing, landscaping, or nursery operations preferred
· Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools
· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
· Self-motivated with effective time management and follow-through
· Willingness to work weekends and flexible hours during peak seasons
