Position: Greenhouse Lead
Weston Nurseries, one of the area’s leading garden centers and wholesalers of plant material and gardening products is excited to announce we are seeking a dedicated and professional individual join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a customer-centric retail or hospitality environment and thoroughly enjoy working alongside fellow employees and customers.
The Greenhouse Lead provides great customer service to Greenhouse customers, mentorship for Greenhouse employees, and completes a variety of greenhouse operations and planning. The qualified applicant must have a strong background in annuals, tropicals and house plants + experience leading teams in a retail garden center environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Customer and employee knowledge resource for the care and sale of annuals, tropicals, and houseplants
- Orders all houseplants, tropicals, herbs, vegetables and annuals for the department using data from Epicor to keep appropriate stocking levels throughout the year.
- Plant health care for the greenhouse department including a watering schedule, pest management, deadheading.
- Ensure all greenhouse department plant material is healthy and always appealing to the customer.
- Creates custom planters for retails sales and for customers following Weston Nurseries standards for planting.
- Creates displays using hardgoods and plant material to increase sales and to achieve a beautiful, clean shopping experience for the customer and staff.
- Collaborate with the Lead Merchandiser on a weekly/sometimes daily basis on incoming hardgoods and plant material to discuss the ongoing layout of the store, exterior and greenhouse.
- Ensure the greenhouse is functioning properly throughout the year with venting and shades.
- Maintain a beautiful, safe and easy-to-shop sales area.
- Assists with the tagging and merchandising for all hardgoods when needed.
- Works collaboratively and as a team to assist other departments in needed.
Requirements:
- Horticultural knowledge or tenure in professional greenhouse/horticulture related roles
- Familiarity with care and sales of annuals, tropicals, house plants and succulents
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to speak and understand English
- Self-motivated, team player with excellent interpersonal skills & creative problem solving
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must be dependable, punctual with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work outside in all weather (will need work boots)
- Be a team player working with a diverse group of people
- Able to work on your feet for 8-hour shifts and lift 50 lbs. regularly
