Azalea

Deciduous. Summer flowering. Compact and spreading when young, becoming wide and upright with age. A multitude of peach-orange buds open over a period of a week or more to peach/yellow/white flowers, imparting a multicolored effect in mid July. Long, pointed glossy green foliage changes to bronze before dropping in autumn. Foliage has some mildew susceptibility for us in the open fields. Flowers have a slight vanilla fragrance, are attractive for two weeks or longer, and are extremely tolerant of our July heat. They are at their best in full sun. (-24°F, UM)
