Horsechestnut, Red

Fast growing and best suited for a large site. Prominent glossy reddish brown buds, stout, upright, coarse branches. Young plants tend to have irregular trunks. Early to leaf-out in the spring with large, compound, corrugated leaves. Pink flowers with yellow throats in large pyramidal clusters, May. A hybrid between the Horsechestnut (A. hippocastanum) and Red Buckeye (A. pavia). Produces few nuts.
