Maple, Sugar

Dark green foliage turns to an outstanding orange-red fall color. More drought tolerant than other Sugar Maples. This is the native species for which autumn foliage in New England has become world renown. A stately long-lived tree when properly sited but susceptible to salt damage when planted close to the street. The beginning of the "sap run" in March (from which maple sugar is produced) is a sure sign theat spring and warmer weather is soon to follow.
