Spring

Rhododendron 'Olga Mezitt' (image 1)
In my opinion, Rhododendron 'Olga Mezitt' is the best of the PJM varieties. Its outstanding clear pink flowers cover the plant in early May and glossy aromatic foliage turns to a dark bronze-copper as winter approaches. Plus, it can withstand the cold New England winter. . . a must-have in a "Weston Nurseries" garden! 'Olga Mezitt' is named for Ed Mezitt's mother.

Brunnera 'Jack Frost' (image 2) is one of the most lovely, user friendly shade perennials I know. The leaves with their silver over-lay appear long before hostas and most other shade plants. They are clean, fresh and adorable and THEN, they bloom clouds of blue forget-me-not flowers which last for almost two months, increasing in height and volume as the plant grows to it's mature size. The silver leaves with green veins and edges are the perfect companion for small and medium blue hosta, making them seem even bluer. Brunneras prefer dry shade which is easy to come by and seem impervious to insect damage and infestation. Great for moon gardens or outdoor living spaces where no watering systems are located.
